Frequently Asked Questions
What is video schema?
Video schema (VideoObject) is structured data that describes a video on your page: its title, description, thumbnail, length and upload date. It helps Google find your video and show it in video results with a thumbnail.
What does Google require?
A title, a thumbnail URL and an upload date. Google also recommends a description, the length, and either the video file URL or an embed URL so it can fetch the video.
Do I need video schema for YouTube embeds?
Google can often find embedded YouTube videos on its own, but VideoObject schema makes it explicit which video is on the page and what it's about. It's most useful for product demos and tutorials on your own site.
What format does the video length use?
ISO 8601, like PT5M12S for five minutes and twelve seconds. The generator converts the minutes and seconds you enter for you.
Where do I add video schema?
On the page where the video is embedded and visible, in the head or body. Only mark up a video on pages where visitors can actually watch it.
